Rhythms in eventuality
2023
Projector, video on loop, no sound, laser engraving on stainless steel, printmaking ink, threaded wire, dimensions variable
Distorted vocal cords are depicted on the stainless steel surface on which the video of a soundless underwater landscape is projected. Suggesting distortion or reconfiguration of the human sound-producing organ, this work attempts to restructure associations between notions of communication, place, land and agency beyond the conventions of anthropocentrism.
Rhythms in eventuality draws from the poetry of Mehmet Yashin – its reference to linked ideas of community and ancestry, language beneath words, a sensorial approach to memory and the sea as mediation for autobiographical encounters to be shared and circulated.
