Negotiating Synthesis draws from painting and alchemy to examine the distribution of agency within production. Performers are invited to take part in a series of impromptu experimental events, where they interact with the tool case and its content through an audio guide. They are given the keys to the case and access to a playlist on Soundcloud. They are asked to follow the audio instructions and explore the content of the case for the first time on site, together with the viewers. The performances take the form of four-hour long rehearsals that include moments of action, interaction, inactivity and dialogue.
